The Cheese and Wine Route, along with the Peña de Bernal, is located approximately 180 to 200 kilometers from Mexico City, depending on the exact point of departure and the final destination, whether it be Tequisquiapan, Ezequiel Montes, or Bernal. The drive typically takes between 2.5 and 3 hours.
The Peña de Bernal is one of the region’s main natural attractions. Considered the third largest monolith in the world, it rises about 350 meters above the surrounding terrain. It is located in the municipality of Ezequiel Montes, in the state of Querétaro. The town of Bernal, founded in the 17th century, retains its colonial charm with traditional buildings such as chapels, local museums, and a historic castle. Every March 21st, during the spring equinox, hundreds of visitors climb the monolith, drawn by its energy, in a tradition rooted in pre-Hispanic beliefs.
The Cheese and Wine Route is mainly located in the area surrounding Tequisquiapan and Ezequiel Montes. This region is home to over 20 vineyards and numerous artisanal cheese producers. Among the most renowned wineries are Freixenet México, Viñedo La Redonda, and Viñedos Los Aztecas. Throughout the route, visitors can enjoy tastings of sparkling, white, and red wines, as well as a wide variety of fresh and aged cheeses made locally. This experience combines culture, gastronomy, and stunning landscapes in the heart of Querétaro.
