Private Mexico City Tour (No transport)

Mexico City, one of the oldest cities in the Americas, was founded in what is now the Historic Center, where the Mexica people established Tenochtitlan in 1325 on an island in Lake Texcoco. This pre-Hispanic city became the political, religious, and cultural heart of the Mexica Empire until the arrival of Spanish conquistadors in 1521. After a brutal siege, Hernán Cortés destroyed much of the original city and rebuilt it as the capital of the Viceroyalty of New Spain. On top of the ruins of indigenous temples and palaces, the Spanish erected monumental colonial structures such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Viceroyal Palace (now the National Palace), and numerous churches and convents that still shape the layout and architecture of the Historic Center today.

Over the centuries, the Historic Center has witnessed many of the major events that shaped the nation: independence, the Reform era, the Mexican Revolution, and the modernization of the 20th century. Today, it remains a vibrant cultural, political, and tourist hub, home to more than 1,500 historic buildings and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Its unique layout, combining Mexica foundations with colonial planning, and its dynamic urban life make the Historic Center the living soul of Mexico City, where past and present coexist in constant dialogue.

FIRST STOP :

MEETING POINT

Our guide will meet you at the agreed meeting point. After introducing themselves, they will give an overview of the area's history, covering the different historical periods it has gone through.

SECOND STOP :

ZOCALO ZONE

Our first stop will be the Zócalo, the heart of Mexico City’s Historic Center, where we’ll see some of the most important buildings in the city. Among them is the Metropolitan Cathedral, one of the most impressive constructions, which took nearly 300 years to complete. We’ll also visit the Templo Mayor, which was the main ceremonial building of the ancient pre-Hispanic city of Tenochtitlan, and the National Palace, located on the site where the palace of the last Mexica emperor, Moctezuma, once stood, and which later became the residence of Hernán Cortés.

THIRD STOP :

MADERO STREET

Continuing our tour, we’ll walk along Madero Street, a commercial thoroughfare originally laid out as an escape route for Spanish troops in the event of an indigenous uprising. Over time, the street took on a new identity as silversmiths and jewelry vendors established their shops there. Eventually, it evolved into the main commercial street of the entire Historic Center, bustling with activity and rich in architectural and cultural landmarks.

FOURTH STOP :

POSTAL PALACE

The tour continues to the Postal Palace, an iconic building in the area, constructed to modernize the postal service in Mexico. It was inaugurated by former president Porfirio Díaz and stands as a prime example of early 20th-century architectural elegance. Later, in the 20th century, the building underwent a careful restoration to return it to its original splendor, preserving its intricate details and historical value.

FIFTH STOP :

FINE ARTS PALACE AND ALAMEDA CENTRAL PARK

For the final part of our tour, we’ll visit the most iconic building in the entire area: the Palace of Fine Arts. With a history spanning over a century, the building began as an initiative to modernize the old National Theatre. The project was originally part of a beautification program launched by former president Porfirio Díaz, but construction was interrupted by the Mexican Revolution. It was eventually resumed and completed in September of 1934. Today, the Palace of Fine Arts stands as a symbol of Mexican culture, blending architectural styles and serving as a venue for major artistic and cultural events.
