Real del Monte is located approximately 100 km northeast of Mexico City, a 2 and a half hour drive.
Real del Monte is a Magic Town known for its historic center, which stands out for its colonial and British architecture, cobblestone streets, red roofs, and a cool, misty climate that gives it a picturesque atmosphere.
In the Main Square, there is an iron gazebo surrounded by old houses and the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary, an 18th-century colonial church with gilded altarpieces. Walking through the town center allows visitors to appreciate its mining history and English influence, visible in the architecture and historical plaques on some facades. It is also full of craft shops and is the best place to try pastes, a traditional dish of British origin, made artisanally. Near the center is the most important Paste Museum, enriching the cultural experience.
The Historic Center of Real del Monte offers a peaceful environment, great views, and a rich history—ideal for strolling, taking photographs, tasting local cuisine, and connecting with its mining and multicultural past.
On the other hand, in Huasca de Ocampo are the Basaltic Prisms, an impressive natural geological formation located in Huasca de Ocampo, in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. They consist of vertical basalt columns with hexagonal or polygonal shapes, created by the slow cooling and contraction of volcanic lava. This process causes fractures that spread in nearly perfect geometric patterns. The formation begins with a volcanic eruption, where lava accumulates on the surface; as it cools slowly, the basalt contracts and cracks, giving rise to columns with 5, 6, or 7 sides. Over time, erosion by water and wind exposes these structures. These columns are surrounded by waterfalls that cascade between them, creating a unique and spectacular landscape. They were studied in the 19th century by the scientist Alexander von Humboldt and are today considered one of Mexico’s 13 Natural Wonders.
