Night bike rides have grown in popularity since the early 2000s as part of initiatives to promote cycling as a sustainable mode of transportation. In 2007, Mexico City launched the Muévete en Bici “Move by Bike”) program, originally focused on Sundays, but it soon inspired nighttime rides across the city.
During the 2010s, cycling groups like Paseo de Todos (“Everyone’s Ride”) emerged, organizing monthly themed rides open to cyclists of all skill levels. The city government also began promoting large-scale night events on special dates such as Día de Muertos and the Spring Equinox, with routes along major avenues closed to motor traffic.
One of the most exciting experiences is cycling down Paseo de la Reforma, from the edge of Chapultepec Forest all the way to the Basilica of Guadalupe. This iconic avenue takes you past historical monuments, lush green spaces, and striking modern architecture. On Sundays, the avenue is reserved exclusively for cyclists, creating a safe, relaxed atmosphere perfect for riders of all ages and levels.
