The Nevado de Toluca, also known as Xinantécatl, is an extinct volcano located just a couple of hours from Mexico City, offering one of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in central Mexico. It is located 2.5 hours from mexico city. Standing at over 15,092 ft above sea level, it is the fourth highest peak in the country and is renowned for its impressive crater, which shelters two beautiful alpine lakes: Laguna del Sol and Laguna de la Luna (13 800 ft). Reaching the summit (15,355 ft) is a challenging yet rewarding experience, with sweeping panoramic views of the volcanic basin, the sparkling lakes below, and on clear days, distant views of neighboring peaks like Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl. The ascent passes through pine forests, rocky terrain, and high-altitude grasslands, making the Nevado not only a paradise for hikers and nature lovers, but also a sacred and serene site steeped in pre-Hispanic legend and natural majesty

This is a private and personalized hike only for you and your love ones. This hike is high level of difficulty, the walking until the top (regular physical condition) is 3 hours and another 3 hours to descend. This hike is around 12 kilometers. The maximum altitude of this hike is 15,092 ft above sea level. The total duration is 12 hours and taking the transfers time. The best season for this hike is october-february. Usually on november the first snowfall begins. and the mountain is closed per safety. This hike includes private transport, pick up and drop off at your address in Mexico city, your mountain guide/driver, rental of poles and helmets, 1 protein bar per person, 1 bottle of water and 1 bag of snacks per person. After 4 people the vehicle is a new van with air conditioner.

PICK UP TIME :

Your guide will contact you before pick up time. The pick up will be at your accommodation address. You can choose the pick up time from 5 am to 6 am.

Usually it takes 2.5 hours early in the morning from the central touristic areas to Protected Natural Area Toluca’s Snowy Mountain

ARRIVAL AT :

PROTECTED NATURAL AREA TOLUCA'S SNOWY MOUNTAIN

We will arrive in the first parking area at 11,482.94 ft, this is the Access to the top. You need to know that on weekends the vehicle need to park here and it's necessary to take a local van with more people to arrive on the top where is the starting of the hike. On week our vehicle arrives until the top.

TOUR TIME :

6 HOURS OF HIKE

The full hike is 6 hours, starting from 13,123.36 ft. The first 1 kilometer leads to the border of the crater at 13,845.14 ft. From this viewpoint, we can admire the beautiful Lake of the Moon. In the middle, there is a huge deposit of lava called the crater’s belly button. We descend to the Lake of the Moon, walk alongside it, and begin our ascent. On the first compound of peaks at 14,435.7 ft, we need to climb large rocks. Along the crater rim, there are several rock formations. We continue our way until reaching the summit. We reach the summit about 3 hours after starting the hike, at 15,354.3 ft. The descent follows a different path: the terrain is very sandy, so it’s important to wear high boots to prevent sand and small rocks from getting inside.

After approximately 1.5 hours, we arrive at the Lake of the Sun area, located at 13,779.5 ft. The hike then continues back to the starting point.

Yes. A private tour only for you and your special people. At this moment We don’t have groupal tours.

-What type of vehicle?

At this moment We are a small growing agency. Our agency has 1 new vehicle 2025 + 3 new vans 2024. So when the tour is from 1-3 people the vehicle is a car (it can be our new vehicle or the vehicle of your guide). We use a van or minivan after 4 people.

-Have the guides a certification?

Our team is made by local guides, lovers of our culture and destinations. They have a lot of experience in our tours: driving & the story. OF COURSE SOMETIMES WE WORK WITH CERTIFICATE GUIDES. WHEN THE CUSTOMER REQUEST FOR A CERTIFICATE GUIDE WE CAN DO IT (WITH EXTRA COST)

-Is My guide the same driver?

Usually if the tour is for 1 to 3 people the guide is the same driver. After 4 people We use a van with 10/13 seats or minivan for 7 passengers. Usually in minivan is the same guide the driver.
